The Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game is a Japanese collectible card game based on the fictional game of Duel Monsters. It was launched in 1999 in Japan and 2002 in North America. In a game of Yu-Gi-Oh!, each player uses a deck containing forty to sixty cards and starts with 8,000 Life Points. The objective of the game to use monster attacks and spells to reduce the opponent's Life Points to zero.
The Pokémon trading card game, released in 1996, was the year's top-selling toy in the strategic card game subclass in 2016, and as of September 2019, the game has sold over 28.8 billion cards worldwide. Players assume the role of a Pokémon trainer and use their Pokémon to battle their opponent's Pokémon. Players play Pokémon to the field and attack their opponent's Pokémon. A Pokémon that has sustained enough damage is knocked out, and the player who knocked it out draws a Prize card. There are usually six Prize cards, and the primary win condition is to draw all of them.

Released in February 2010, basic gameplay for Cardfight Vanguard consists of two players who represent astral spirits dueling on the fictional planet Cray. The cards in players' decks, called "Units," represent characters from Cray that players can "Call" to the field to fight for them. Players alternate turns calling, attacking, and defending with units. When one player reaches six damage, or there are no more cards remaining in his or her deck, that player loses the game.
